hunch about the forthcoming Nikon d800

this is totally a guess, but I’m guessing that I’m right.

I’ll bet if you were to hunt the streets of Seattle (and possibly Vancouver, see below) you might see some secretive new cameras in the hands of a few pros up there.

Chase Jarvis is a talented professional photographer in Seattle. His work takes him all over the world, and he has also been one of the most publicized photogs to field test as-yet-to-be-released new Nikon camera body's. In this case I’ll bet right now or within the next few weeks he will have a few of the new Nikon D800’s or whatever Nikon is calling the D700 replacement in his hands and will be shooting some wonderful new shots as well as some sweet video. Chase has field tested the Nikon D90 when it came out (post here) as well as the new Nikon D7000 (post here).

One other item to consider. David DuChemin, of the Pixelated Image Blog has made the big switch to Nikon from his Canon cameras. This involved selling all his old gear and although David preaches that gear isn’t the most important part of the photo, it still matters. Remember the famous Ansel Adams quote that the most important part of the camera is the 12 inches behind it. I'm wondering if David has been asked to field test the new Nikon D800 too. Just a guess.

With the rumors at nikonrumors.com as well as many other sites hinting that the new Nikon D700 replacement will be released, or at least announced in march 2011, I for one am excited. I am also saving my pennies to get one of these to replace my aging Nikon body.

I do not have any inside information and the photo in this post was just found on the web.

dslr for video?

if you are either not doing this already with your dslr, want to, or if you are like me and don't have one that can do video (i have a aging nikon d200) then you are either new or have your head in the sand.

we'll assume you have heard of this new genre. what to do.

  • do i go out and buy a bunch of prime lenses, how about zooms?
  • do i wait?
  • do i dump my nikon gear for the leader right now canon?
  • do i even want to shoot video with my dslr?
  • do i go four-thirds?
  • do i buy a red camera? (wink)

i for one can't wait for the new nikon d800or whatever is due to replace the d700. i made my investment in my two prime and two zoom lenses. i'll just have to wait for now as even though the new d3100 and new d7000 have video, i want a full frame camera. (this is due primarily to the fact that i am 95% a still photographer and would only really dabble in the video arena)

anyway, be sure to do some research on this exciting new field for us all to play with.  i have a few links to get you started. share your links with the class...leave a comment.
